What This Pathway Is
Express Entry is Canada's main system for bringing in skilled workers as permanent residents. It covers three federal programs: Canadian Experience Class (for people who already have skilled work experience in Canada), Federal Skilled Worker (for skilled workers abroad or in Canada), and Federal Skilled Trades (for qualified tradespeople).
The basic flow is straightforward: you create an online profile, receive a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on factors like age, education, language, and work experience, and — if your score is high enough — you may receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence. After an ITA, you submit a full application with supporting documents.
Timelines vary with draw cut-offs and your individual profile. Many successful applicants move from ITA to a decision in roughly six to twelve months, but processing can be longer depending on complexity and IRCC volumes.

- You have skilled work experience in an eligible occupation (typically TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 under the current NOC system).
- You can demonstrate language ability through an approved test (English or French) at a level that meets your program's minimum.
- Your education is documented — Canadian credentials or an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for foreign education.
- You meet admissibility requirements (no serious criminal or medical issues that would bar entry).
- You can show sufficient settlement funds if you do not already have a valid job offer or Canadian work experience in some cases.
